This post is especially for both beginner and
intermediate level of Spoken English ESL students But nevertheless
for everyone who is still struggling to get the words flow naturally
out of their mouth.
How many times and kinds of
mainstream traditional methods/techniques have you read over the
Internet for improving
English fluency on your own if you had no one to practice with ? For
example, "talk to yourself looking in the mirror, etc,"
While this may work to some extent but same time it may make you look
crazy. Besides, it becomes boring for most of the ESL students at
some point. Most of them may initially get bored and run out of words
as soon as they start utilizing this technique. It's just totally
AWKWARD!
Practicing this way will require you to remain in a complete isolated state. While many people may not have the much privacy in their house where family members most of the time.
e are around. If you won't
run out of the topics you're talking about with yourself alone, you
will sooner or later get bored to death.
Well, you can throw this awkward technique in your mental trash can.
So what is this technique?
The technique you will learn in this post is ever intriguing and practical in a sense that it actually makes you willing to open your mouth and speak!
It keeps your interest
alive and as a result of it, it becomes a fun way to improving Spoken
English alone. The more you practice with it, the more you improve.
At first it may be a little difficult but eventually you will start
loving it.
You've probably seen both non-English natives and natives YouTubers reviewing products in their videos. Ever noticed how proudly, confidently and some may loudly speaking to provide the review of the products?
The technique given
here is akin to reviewing a product or anything you want to. Let's
call it "Verbal Analysis" of non-living & living
things. Basically, you hold an
object, being intrigued by the object, you start speaking about its
features, specifications, design, the brand, time-date-day & for
how much you bought it. All in a great detail as much as you can
depending on your current level of vocabulary and phrases. You can
just speak ANYTHING related to your that object. But don't confuse it
with 'describing activity' whatever activity you're doing. You may take
it to that level accordingly if you wish to. But that would be
multi-tasking if you haven't yet achieved fluency in Spoken English
and lack words to describe.
To make it more practical and take it to the next stage, you can video record yourself talking or actually reviewing about your in a more efficient way. Then watch yourself. Watch if there are mistakes you've made? Chances are, you've. Learn from mistakes and improve. The only way. There are no short-cuts.
It works as an inner
compulsion to find the meaning of words you didn't know and
adjectives, etc. But when you take up the mindset of "reviewing"
it, you may or may not experience some sort of difficulty and if only
your Spoken English level is beginner and poor vocabulary. Besides,
you will have a slight mental pressure of doing it the "Perfect
Way". As a result, you will collapse as soon as you start it.
Because most humans beings want to do the things perfectly. They
don't want themselves failing at the task at first attempt. That's
the reason most people never get anywhere.
So start with the mindset of "Casual Speaking" like nobody is watching you and speak whatever you want to about any non-living or living object and gradually build your way up. You can audio record yourself while speaking. It's a must. But don't let it distract you with an Unconscious need of checking it as soon as you finish speaking. You can practice it with your ESL fellows learners or just with any of your family member if not then you can do it alone in your own room. It won't make you look crazy at least.
The most AMAZING thing
about this technique is, you can always experiment with it in
different ways,on different occasions and expand it. You can utilize
it in many ways according to your situations.Whether at outdoors or
indoors.
If you're one of those who
are still dependent on mind translation of languages, I suggest you
to dump this habit as soon as possible. The solution to get rid of
this habit will surely be provided in future posts.
